A warm welcome to Konstantin Weber, who will be visiting the Darwin Group for the next several weeks.
Konstantin Weber is a Master’s student from the Environmental Physics group at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Konstantin has a wide range of interests in biogeochemistry, atmospheric chemistry, and climate modeling. During his time here, Konstantin will be working on modeling deep-sea bacteria and their nutrient limitations. While the project’s direction may evolve, its current focus involves developing a simple mathematical model to capture observations in the mesopelagic and bathypelagic zones of the ocean.
Konstantin says his journey into environmental science began with an undergraduate degree in Technical Chemistry from the Technical University of Vienna. Early experiences working on the climate impact of halocarbons and the detection of extreme precipitation in Europe set the stage for his continued exploration of the environmental sciences. In particular, Konstantin credits a lecture by Professor Nicolas Gruber at ETH Zurich with sparking his enthusiasm for biogeochemical cycles and climate science. This passion led him to explore opportunities abroad, ultimately bringing him to MIT.
